Fight Club Pittsburgh to Close Its Doors; Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy to Take Its Place

markchericosmartialartsacademyBy Albert Cameron – It’s a done deal: Fight Club Pittsburgh (FCP) will cease to exist at the end of November. FCP’s leader and backbone, Gregg Rudolph announced via social media outlets that a business opportunity that he cannot pass up has presented itself to him and he could no longer dedicate the time the Fight Club deserves. Rudolph was very gracious in naming former PinnacleFC and Gladiators of the Cage (GOTC) featherweight champion, “the Pride of Bloomfield” Mark Cherico, as his successor.

It’s been fairly obvious throughout the day that Cherico plans on taking things in his own direction. A logo for the newly crowned “Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy” appeared on those same social media outlets and friends and fans have been offering their support and well wishes to Cherico. Already, fans and supporters are asking for class schedules, for an address and pledging their support to train at the new martial arts academy.

When reached for comment, Cherico told CageNationTV.Com that on December 1st, Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy would be opening its doors to the public. The curriculum will include Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, and a global study of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). In addition to offering a comprehensive study of combat sports, Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy will also provide a unique ladies only fitness program. Mark Cherico’s credentials as head coach does include two featherweight championships for the metropolitan area’s most prestigious fight promotions, an undefeated amateur career and tireless study of the disciplines that his academy will be offering. It’s easy to postulate that Cherico himself will be teaching classes, his associate instructors have also yet to be named.

The immediate question at hand is easy: what will happen to the Fight Club Pittsburgh fight team? Cherico confirms that the Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy will have a competitive fight team and they will compete under the banner “The Academy.” At this specific writing, we’re unable to confirm or deny any active fighters that may be fighting for “the Academy.” Fight Club Pittsburgh will still operate and be training their fighters for the November 25th Pinnacle FC fight card. After that card, the nearest event will be the next Gladiators of the Cage card and we can only speculate if any Academy fighters will be fighting in January.

Mark Cherico’s Martial Arts Academy will be opening its doors on December 1st at 4573 Campbells Run Road in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We’ll keep you posted with any further developments.
