By: Albert Cameron – It’s fair to say that the scale on the day of the weigh ins could be the finish line on the long journey of fight preparation. Once you weigh in officially, you are able to rehydrate and consume whatever calories you need to get your body back to peak physical performing shape. A well thought out weight cut will take weeks; weeks of self-denial and careful dieting, restricting fluid intake. Cutting weight can be a calculated torture that only warriors would welcome upon themselves. By Albert Cameron – It’s a done deal: Fight Club Pittsburgh (FCP) will cease to exist at the end of November. FCP’s leader and backbone, Gregg Rudolph announced via social media outlets that a business opportunity that he cannot pass up has presented itself to him and he could no longer dedicate the time the Fight Club deserves. Rudolph was very gracious in naming former PinnacleFC and Gladiators of the Cage (GOTC) featherweight champion, “the Pride of Bloomfield” Mark Cherico, as his successor. Daniel O’Neil, a student of Central PA MMA, has called it a day on his fighting career; O’Neil will be leaving the combat sports world behind in both of his disciplines: Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai.
O’Neil (2-1-0) had fully intended on closing the curtains on his career at the Sherman Cage Rage 6 event, but an injury sustained at his last kickboxing fight had aggravated an existing injury and left him unable to fulfill his obligation to Sherman Cage Rage. O’Neil described the aggravated injury as a hernia that had been repaired from years prior; weakened muscle walls, especially in the abdomen can be excruciatingly painful. According to his official Facebook page, Ethan “The Wolverine” Goss’ amateur featherweight title fight with Derek Wright has been cancelled due to Wright’s inability to obtain medical clearance. This fight was to be Goss’ next title conquest in a bid to become the most prolific and decorated featherweight in the burgeoning Pittsburgh MMA scene. While no one from Gladiators of the Cage (GOTC) or Derek Wright’s camp have confirmed officially, Goss is indeed indicating that he will not be fighting for the amateur featherweight crown or at featherweight for that matter.
